Banana Bread
It's a classic. Banana bread is for everyone and it works so well with maple syrup that you'll never go back to another sweetener for it. Here's our version - give it a try or experiment and come up with your own! Preheat the oven to 375. Roughly mash 2 bananas - you can mash it a lot and it makes a smoother texture, but we love leaving it roughly mashed so there are chunks of banana scattered throughout the bread. Add 2 egg whites, 1/2 c of maple syrup, 1/4 c of oil, and 3/4 c of buttermilk then...
Caramel Sauce
Nothing says fall like apples, and nothing is better than a fresh apple slice dipped in caramel sauce. You can certainly buy caramel sauce at the store, but why when it's so easy to make at home? Here's our favorite recipe for homemade maple-caramel sauce. Pour a cup of maple syrup into a stainless steel pan with high sides and bring to a boil. Warm 1/2 c heavy cream, either in a pan or in the microwave -- no need to bring it to a boil, just take the refrigerator chill off of it (if you are planning ahead you...
Equinox Cider
It's official, fall is here! Today on the autumn equinox try a fun variation on a fall favorite. Find a nice dry hard cider (we love Citizen Cider here in Vermont) and fill a tall cup halfway. Add half a shot of bourbon, a bit of maple syrup (or a lot if you like your drinks sweet!), then top it off with a splash of soda. Fill the cup with ice, but not too much.... winter is coming!
Meet the Sugarmaker!
This Friday, September 23rd, from 3:30 to 6:00 we will be hosting a maple syrup and maple candy tasting at the Portage Bay Grange on Roosevelt Ave in Seattle, WA. Hope to see you there, and if you need more details just send an email or check in on Facebook!
Squash-Chocolate Bread
No one loves quick breads more than we do, they are forgiving recipes that substitute maple syrup for sugar really well, and they are versatile ways to celebrate the seasons. Leading into fall, an obvious choice is pumpkin or butternut squash (any squash can work, but butternut has a really great texture for baking). This recipe is only lightly sweetened. If you like a sweeter quick bread try using semi-sweet chocolate chips, or sprinkling coarse sugar on top before baking. Preheat oven to 375 F. (If you are making your own squash or pumpkin puree you can set the oven...
