Peach Salsa with a Touch of Maple
There are probably only a couple more weeks left of fresh peaches from the region, so this is a great opportunity to try something fun. Peach salsa with a touch of maple syrup goes so well with goat cheese and crackers that we wish we'd tried this years ago! Maple Blondies
Brownies are heavy for the summer, but a blondie is a perfect treat for the hard work on a busy summer day. Try swapping out maple syrup for sugar in the bar, whole wheat flour for white flour, and top it off with nuts and sunflower seeds as well as chocolate chips and you've got a hearty sweet for kids and farmers alike!
Maple Dip
Fresh summer fruits and vegetables get an added boost from a light and lovely dip. Try mixing plain yogurt and fresh goat cheese with a touch of maple syrup. We like to use goat cheese with fresh dill to give an extra kick to the dip. Mix just a touch of maple syrup in for carrots and radishes, and a generous spoonful for fruit salad after dinner!
Summer Berries with Maple Syrup
The only thing better than fresh summer berries are berries cooked down with a bit of maple syrup then topped with whipped cream! Try a combination of berries, or maybe berries and rhubarb. Peaches cooked down are also lovely, and as summer moves into fall then try apples and maple syrup. A bit of herbs would be a savory touch, mint or sage, lavender or rosemary. With fruit, maple, and cream there is no limit!
The Perfect B.L.T.
Okay, we knew the B.L.T. was quite possibly the perfect summer sandwich, but it turns out maple syrup can help you really knock it out of the park. Check out Bon Appetit magazine's suggestion for a maple-mustard glaze on the bacon for your sandwich....
